Relationships

The sacred life…

Relationships are our greatest teachers if we’re just willing to listen deeply to them. Often it is the relationship to oneself that needs more attention. This life we have been given is sacred. Do we treat it as sacred? Rarely.

Self-talk is a defeating practice.

Left alone, human beings tend to become self-delusional, believing the things we tell ourselves despite evidence to the contrary. The mirror of relationships provides feedback that can ground us in reality or further distort reality, depending upon their health and authenticity.

Some relationships show us what we’ve outgrown, that it’s time for a change. Some reveal how poorly we think of ourselves – a wake-up call that it’s time to grieve the heartache of how we’ve been treated in the past, opening to the possibility we are worthy and deserving of love, respect and care.

Relationships are a teacher.

Relationships have a way of reflecting back to us exactly what we need to learn. The gravity of old patterns keeps us stuck until we’re ready to make the courageous step living more authentically.

Intimate partnerships have the most to teach us. The dance of coming together and apart over time reveals the places we hide and the parts of ourselves we would rather not have.

The degree to which we are able to love ourselves is the degree to which we can love another.
